"The Map: Navigating the Present", produced by Umeå University’s Bildmuseet in partnership with Bucharest Biennale 3, is currently on display at Stockholm’s Konsthall C art gallery. The exhibition was earlier presented in Bucharest, Bulgaria and at Bildmuseet in Umeå.
On Saturday, May 7, the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts opens two degree exhibitions at Bildmuseet. In the Master of Fine Arts exhibition of 2011, works by thirteen newly graduated artists are presented, covering various aspects of art and society in a multitude of contemporary medias.
On Sunday June 2 at 14:00 Bildmuseet opens a major exhibition with the work by film director and artist Agnès Varda. The exhibition, which fills three museum's floors, shows the breadth of Varda's oeuvre in which both documentary films and installations are included.
For his painting, Anders Sunna gathers subject matter from history and his personal experience. Frequently, the subject is a lengthy conflict played out between the family, the Sami village and the county administration. At Bildmuseet, he presents Area Infected, a new painting that depicts a series of events arising from this long-running conflict.
Two new exhibitions will open at Bildmuseet on Sunday January 19th at 14:00. One of them is Andreas Johansson / Place Position, a pop-up landscape in large scale that the artist has created especially for Bildmuseet.
A modest still life is often the starting point in Anneli Furmark’s watercolour paintings, but in combination with recurring images and notes from her personal sketchbook the motifs grows into imaginative and humorous worlds, where images and words merge into a poetic entity. The exhibition Mindmap at Bildmuseet exhibits a selection of Anneli Furmark’s watercolour paintings and drawings from 2008-2010.
