OPENING: ELIAS CRESPIN / CHRONOMORPHOSIS
Elias Crespin's mobile sculptures move slowly and gracefully in intricate, precise formations, seemingly floating freely in the air. Circles, squares, lines, and triangles in metal or acrylic, suspended by barely noticeable nylon threads, create choreographies based on mathematical algorithms. This is the first presentation of Elias Crespin’s work in the Nordic countries.
OPENING: EIGHT DEGREES / CONTEMPORARY ART ON THE FOREST
Contemporary art exploring our complex relationship with the forest, ranging from ideas of an inviolable intrinsic value to the conception of something to be utilised, such as an economic asset or a space for recreation. What is a forest? And what pressing questions about it are relevant here and now?
OPENING: SWEDISH PICTURE BOOK OF THE YEAR
A blood-filled mosquito is swallowed by a dragonfly, which is eaten by a toad, which is eaten by a snake, which is swallowed by a gull, which is taken by a seal. Aron Landahl has created both images and text for the award-winning picture book Alla äter alla [Everybody Eats Everybody]. The exhibition presents all the original paintings for the book.
OPEN WORKSHOP
Get inspired by Aron Landahl’s Alla äter alla, and create in our workshop, open for all ages.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE CATAPULT PRIZE
Announcement of this year's winner of the Catapult Prize, which is awarded to a fiction writer who debuted during the year. The nominees are Karl Kofi Ahlqvist, Channa Riedel, Sanna Samuelsson, Lida Starodubtseva and Frans Wachtmeister.
POETRY READINGS
Poetry readings take place amidst the art, in two different exhibition spaces but also in Flexhallen. Both international guests and local favorites participate, namely Ida Brytnér, Gombojav Mend-Ooyo, Jenny Tunedal, Alen Besic, Dejan Aleksić, Channa Riedel, Lina Ekdahl, Jörgen Stenberg.
PERFORMANCE
British author Max Porter reads from his latest novel Shy, accompanied by Umeå's own free jazz star Mats Gustafsson.
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM
Viktor Asbaghi Sandström and Denise Bergström, from Littfest-TV, finally step out of the TV studio and appear for the first time in front of a live audience. On Friday evening, they pick the raisin from the literary cake and unleash their inner animals inside the Bildmuseet's main stage Flexhallen. The cage is empty and the party is on! Cast: Patrik Backlund, Elis Monteverde Burrau, Helena Fagertun and others.
LIVE MUSIC WITH HORSEFACE
The Umeå band Horseface plays a rhythm-focused post-punk inspired by the open-minded DIY explosion of the early eighties with global influences. Drum machines and samples combined with violin, bass, guitar, and drums to creates a dubious and peculiar music, with lyrics in Finnish.
DJ RÄSER STUDIOS
The art collective sets the mood and chooses the music in the bar all evening, and towards the wee hours the volume is turned up.
