Aseel AlYaqoub explores the nation as invented and imagined, shaped by maps, architecture, military ceremonies, and cultural heritage. The View from Above marks the first survey of the artist’s decade of archival research and interdisciplinary practice on symbols and narratives connected to Kuwaiti nationhood and Arab identity. Through drawing, sculpture, video and architectural intervention, she uncovers lines of continuity between British colonial rule and the present-day Kuwaiti state. The view from above, a perspective associated with colonial powers and nation-states, offers insights into the mechanisms of nation-building. ______________________________________
