The Italian artist Giuseppe Penone, a leading figure in the Arte Povera movement, has, throughout a career spanning over five decades, been fascinated by the relationship between humans and nature. He has explored how materials are affected by time and physical contact, and through his multifaceted works, he has depicted the slow processes of growth. The living tree in relation to the human body has been a recurring theme in his artistry. In May, his new site-specific work, The Inner Flow of Life, was inaugurated in Princess Estelle's Sculpture Park on Royal Djurgården in Stockholm.
