Time Sunday 19 May, 2024 at 10:00 - 15:00
Place Vännforsbäck

Welcome to the inauguration of the sculpture Waste waste waste (Spill spill spill) by artists Malin Arnell & Åsa Elzén.

The sculpture is a part of Forest Calling – A Never-ending Contaminated Collaboration or Dancing is a Form of Forest Knowledge. Extension: Waste wood, 2024, presented in the exhibition Eight Degrees / Contemporary Art on the Forest at Bildmuseet.

North of Umeå, artists Malin Arnell and Åsa Elzén came across a large pile of waste wood intended for generating district heating. They came up with the idea of taking some of the pile out of production and as a first step placing it in the exhibition space before returning it to the forest. The artists intended to take the pile from an industrial cycle focused on human needs and return it to the life cycle of the forest’s swarming life.

A shuttle bus will be provided from and back to Bildmuseet. Limited capacity, if interested please email info@bildmuseet.umu.se by 13th of May, add “shuttle bus” as the subject email, and confirm the number of seats. Departure at 10:05 am (meeting point: Bildmuseet) and return by 15:00 (Bildmuseet). Kullar & Klang will offer lunch and coffee at a favorable price. If you want to have any dietary restrictions, please mention them in the same email.

You are also welcome to join us directly at Kullar & Klang in Vännforsbäck at 11:00 am

The event will include an introduction by Moa Sandström (Forest curator, Kullar & Klang), Anca Rujoiu (curator, Bildmuseet), Janina Priebe (Senior Lecturer and Assistant Program Leader, Future Forests at Umeå University) and a brief presentation in the forest by Jörgen Sjögren (Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the Restoration Ecology Group, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) followed by a conversation with the artists. The inauguration of the sculpture will expand into a collective walk into the forest.
