Exhibition opening and online artist talk: Bouchra Khalili / Stories Within Stories. The exhibition opens and Khalili gives a presentation in an online conversation with museum curator Sofia Johansson. Language: English.
The speech act is central in Bouchra Khalili's works: to express oneself. In front of her camera, people talk about their own experiences, both historical and current events. The works contain a variety of stories about citizenship, colonialism, racism, vulnerability, resistance and solidarity. The exhibition reflects the artist's interest in grassroots media and how speech, typography, poetry and street theatre amplify voices that would not otherwise be heard.
Bouchra Khalili (b. 1975, Casablanca, Morocco) is based in Berlin, Germany. and has had solo exhibitions at, among other museums, MoMA, New York; MACBA, Barcelona; Jeu de Paume, Paris; and Secession, Vienna. She is currently engaged in doctoral studies at Malmö Art Academy.
