Trädälskaren (The Tree Lover), 76 min
Director: Jonas Selberg Augustsén
Sweden, 2008
Language: Swedish
No subtitles

Jonas and his friends have grown tired of city life in southern Sweden and long to return north. This marks the beginning of a project where they build a treehouse, 14 meters above the ground, by the Lule River. The construction and filming occur simultaneously, alongside discussions about existential questions and a love for nature. When they take a break to experience nightlife in Boden, they encounter bewildered old friends. Why are they building a house in a tree? Will they finish before summer ends?

This screening is in memory of filmmaker Jonas Selberg Augustsén, who unexpectedly passed away last summer. Trädälskaren was his first feature film and exemplifies his unique and original style. Selberg Augustsén was a regular guest at Umeå Film Festival and served on the jury for the Rödspoven film award just last year.

He gained significant attention at international film festivals. The short film Höstmannen (2010) competed at a dozen festivals, winning in Melbourne, Warsaw, Locarno, Tallinn, and Gothenburg. The film Sophelikoptern (2016) won a Guldbagge for Best Original Score and was nominated for three others, including Best Film.
