Alexandra Skarp paints within a photorealistic tradition, employing large formats. In her paintings she examines or reformulates family images, self portraits, images of power and media stereotypes.
The paintings of Alexandra Skarp are tender, ironical and enigmatic. They ask questions from both collective culture and the individual. Humour, even affronts, are blended with voyeurism and a threatening nostalgia.
Alexandra Skarp (born 1967) works and lives in Stockholm.
