Agnès Varda

2013-06-02 to 2013-08-18

Already with her first film, Agnès Varda (born 1928) established herself as an important figure in French cinema. La Pointe Courte from 1954 is considered as the starting point of the French New Wave. At that time, Varda was in her mid-twenties and had no formal training as a film-maker.

Bildmuseet is showing a selection of documentary projects from the 60s and 70s, as well as newer works that display the boundary-transcending way in which Agnès Varda moves between the cinema theatre and the gallery showroom; between photography and cinema; between the moving and the still. Many of Varda's films have political and feminist dimensions, such as Black Panthers (1968) and Résponse de femmes  (1975), where documentation and fiction overlap.
