Ann Edholm / Tounge on the Tip. From the exhibition at Bildmuseet 2019-2020.
Ann Edholm wants her paintings to be experienced as an encounter with a human being, direct and physical. Despite their sharply defined geometric shapes, Edholm's imagery is based on human experience and contains cultural and symbolic references. Using oil paint mixed with wax - thinly applied layer upon layer - she imbues her paintings with a physical, bodily materiality.
Bildmuseet is exhibiting parts of Ann Edholm's series Tongue on the Tip (2003-2010), together with sketches and two completely new works. The paintings include the artist's interpretations of art history and biblical stories, of Jewish deportations during World War II, as well as her mother's memories of the bombs that fell on Berlin.
Ann Edholm (b. 1953) lives and works in Nyköping, Sweden. She was educated at Gerlesborgsskolan and the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, and is represented in art institutions such as Moderna Museet, the Gothenburg Museum of Art and the Public Art Agency Sweden.
