Andreas Johansson's images of desolate, abandoned places, environments that we all feel that we recognize. For Bildmuseet he creates a new work - an illusory three-dimensional landscape constructed as a collage of photographs cut apart.

Bildmuseet is open from 11:00 to 21:00 Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the inauguration weekend of the European Capital of Culture year. The same opening hours apply for the creative workshop for all ages, supervised by art educators.

The opening festivities on Sunday end with a concert by Frida Hyvönen on Bildmuseet's stage on Sunday at 16:30. After that open for mingling and exhibition visits throughout the evening until 21.00.

LEONOR FINI / POURQUPI PAS?
Leonor Fini began her career in 1930s Paris, where she was part of the circle of the surrealists and participated in their exhibitions. Her evocative and personal art challenged by questioning the line between feminine and masculine, myth and reality, consciousness and the unconscious - a versatile artist who is now presented for the first time in the Nordic countries. The exhibition at Bildmuseet features paintings, drawings, book illustrations, text, film and costume sketches for theater and opera.
KATARINA PIRAK SIKKU / NAMMALÁHPÁN
Can sorrow be inherited? This is the question that artist Katarina Pirak Sikku asks in her project on Swedish racial biology's studies of the Sámi population. Her exhibition, in which she gives a new perspective on the history of Swedish science, can be seen at Bildmuseet in 2014.

Elisabeth Mansén is a professor of History of Ideas at Stockholm University. She has written about the women of the Surrealist movement in several contexts, including in the anthology Vidgade sinnen (New Doxa 2003). An article about Meret Oppenheim, Fingertip Knowledge is included in the next issue of the British journal The Senses & Society.
Jonas Ellerström is a writer, translator, art critic and publisher. He has translated texts by Leonor Fini for Bildmuseet, Joyce Mansour's novel Julius Caesar (Sphinx, 2009) and on several occasions written about Dorothea Tanning. He has also published female surrealists like Leonora Carrington, Meret Oppenheim and Greta Knutson.

Marja Helander's works often revolve around her own identity in the borderland between Finnish and Sami culture as well as the encounter between contemporary and traditional culture. Her work for Bildmuseet is a series of photographs in which she explores the idea of nature's soul and what a sacred place can be.

Per Enoksson artistry includes both figurative and non-figurative art, and he is also working to develop his own design. His project at Bildmuseet is a three-dimensional installation that occupies the outdoor environment at Bildmuseet, including wood, textiles, lighting and sound.

Shahzia Sikander works in a time of great geopolitical change. Recent events in the Middle East, for example, have helped to break down clichéd cultural and political boundaries and open up new frameworks for contemporary visual art. Masters students from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts presents their graduation show.
The self-portrait is a way of examining oneself through depicting one's outer and inner self. Over a period of two years Bildmuseet has collaborated with Colleges of Art in Estonia, Finland, Ireland and Latvia in order to draw up a relevant pedagogical methodology relating to self-portraits. In this exhibition we are showing photography, sculpture, collage and slideshows based on material produced in workshops held at five locations in Europe. Using different artistic techniques and methods, the participants of varying ages have all revealed something about themselves.
Bildmuseet also invites you to a public conference on Friday 9 May where the work with self-portraits will be presented and summarised. This is arranged in collaboration with the Department of Creative Studies, Umeå University and the Fine Arts Co-ordinator for Region Västerbotten. The Contemporary Self-Portraits project is financed by the EU's Culture Programme.

LISELOTTE WAJSTEDT / THE LOST ONE
Liselotte Wajstedt is a scriptwriter, director and filmmaker. Her films often move anywhere in the boundary between documentary and experimental art film. Based on personal experiences and reflections she formulates strong existential and visual narratives. In 2014, Bildmuseet premieres her new film project, The Lost One. This sees her go in quest of her family's history and her Sámi roots.
CAROLA GRAHN / Vidderna Ropa
Artist Carola Grahn works in several different media. These include photography, sound and text. In 2014, she is producing a new audio piece for Bildmuseet. Her work often focuses on power structures in relation to gender and ethnicity. Amongst other things, it also investigates and raises questions about Sámi and Swedish identity.

In summer 2014, the halls of Bildmuseet will be filled by a major exhibition of Chinese art from the latest decades. The works going on show are from one of the world's foremost collections of contemporary Chinese art, the M Sigg Collection. Opening in 2017, M is Hong Kong's new museum of visual culture. The exhibition is curated by Uli Sigg in cooperation with Lars Nittve and Katarina Pierre.

Cao Fei
The artist Cao Fei (b.1978) lives and works in Beijing. Well known for her video and multimedia installations and internet works, she reflects upon the rapid and chaotic urbanization in China. The exhibition Right is Wrong features her video Whose Utopia, addressing the dreams and reality of Chinese workers.
Liu Heung Shing
Documentary photographer Liu Heung Shing (f.1951) works in Beijing. He worked as a photojournalist for Time Magazine and Associated Press, and was based in China, USA, India and the Soviet Union. The exhibition Right is Wrong displays his series of photographs from 1979 where Chinese artists demonstrate for the freedom of the arts.
Lars Nittve
Lars Nittve is Director of M+, the large museum of visual culture which is scheduled to open 2017 in Hong Kong. Previously he was director of Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Tate Modern, London. Lars Nittve is one of the curators of the exhibition Right Is Wrong, a collaborative production by Bildmuseet and M+.
Pi Li
Pi Li is Senior curator at M+ in Hong Kong. His background includes being an independent curator and gallery owner. He was also head of department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Pi Li is one of three curators of the exhibition Right is Wrong, a collaborative production by Bildmuseet and M+.
Katarina Pierre
Katarina Pierre is Director of Bildmuseet, Umeå University. She was the initiator of the exhibition Right is Wrong, and curated the exhibition along with Pi Li and Lars Nittve from M+.
Uli Sigg
Uli Sigg is the man behind the world's foremost collection of contemporary Chinese art, now largely donated to M+ in Hong Kong. Today living in Switzerland, Uli Sigg was active in China as a businessman, diplomat and art collector from the 1970s onwards.
Zhang Peili
The artist Zhang Peili (b.1957) lives and works in Hangzhou, China. He was one of the founders of Pond Society and played a prominent role in Hangzhou's avant-garde in the 1980s. Today, Zhang primarily works with video and photography. The Right is Wrong exhibition features works from his series of glove paintings as well as the video work Water (Standard Pronunciation Ci Hai - Sea of Words).

Humberto Campana from the Brazilian design duo Fernando and Humberto Campana gives a lecture in Bildmuseets flexihall. Language: English.
The Brazilian design duo Fernando and Humberto Campana are known for their colourful, wilful, and experimental furniture influenced by traditional handicrafts. They collaborate with different groups and use everyday material such as rope, cardboard, stuffed toy animals, bamboo, blankets, and plastic tubes.
Brothers Fernando Campana (b. 1961) and Humberto Campana (b. 1953) work in São Paulo, Brazil. They have worked with places like the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the furniture exhibition in Milan, and Beijing Design Week. Their furniture can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. They have also created costumes for the Ballet National in Marseilles and scenography at the Guggenheim in New York.
